  • 1st off let me tell you about a GREAT company for high tech cooling gear for PC's.  Check out http://www.sharkacorp.com .  They are very good to deal with and have good prices.  I purchased Koolance Exos from them and have been VERY pleased with the level of customer service from this company.

  • Microsoft Service Pack 2 for Windows XP has been released.  GET IT NOW.  It will help a lot with preventing Internet Explorer and network exploits.  Just be careful and make sure everything you use (software) will run with your PC.

  • ATI has released their latest bad boy video card.  I have mine on order.  The X800XT PE.  It pretty much doubles the performance of their last high end card, the Radeon 9800XT.

  • Boy has the spam gotten horrific or what!  I want to warn all of you that when you see an email with an attachment, you better know who it is coming from, and what it is.  Otherwise you will end up with an infected PC that sends out email to everyone on your address list, and then tries to infect them.  So please, an updated anti-virus, a firewall of some sort, and if possible a content monitoring software.

  • Here is a great application for troubleshooting issues with your NT based PC which includes XP, 2000, and NT4.   This is a private application that I have permission to post.  WindowsCapture.

  • A very important part of your computer is the BIOS.  I would recommend visiting:  http://www.rojakpot.com for a complete listing of all bios settings and also some great tips and information.

  • A great informational site on Windows Tasks, which includes a list of all Windows Tasks and their purpose can be found here:  http://www.answersthatwork.com .  It is important to know what is running on your PC and why.  You never know when something creepy or crawly could be snooping on what you are doing.

  • I would highly recommend setting your Windows XP system to get updates automatically and install them daily.  To do this, right click "My Computer" on your desktop and choose "Properties".  There will be a tab at the top of named "Automatic Updates".  I would set this to "Download updates automatically"  When there are updates available, an icon will appear in your taskbar informing you to install them.

  • There is an EXCELLENT free program you can use to diagnose problems, or to just get information about your Windows XP, 2000, or NT based computer.  It is called AIDA32 and you may get it here:  http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php

  • I am starting this page as a way to "spread the joy" of the best information I have compiled and found from the Internet.

  • If you aren't running and up to date anti-virus and you are on the internet, you are probably infected with a Virus.

  • If you haven't applied ALL of Microsoft's critical updates, then you are probably infected or security is comprimised.

  • If you don't have a firewall to protect your PC from internet traffic, then at least enable the one that comes with Windows XP.  It is simple, but it IS something.  To enable it, simply right click "My Network Places", click "Properties".  In the Network Connections right click your "Local Area Connection" then click "Properties".  Click the Advanced tab and enable the Firewall.
